Spring/Summer is a time of refashioning. It presents us with an abundance of renewed energy. It's the time of year we want to experience new things, explore unfamiliar territory, reach outside of ourselves, taste the unknown and feel the sun on our face.
In the fashion world, Spring/Summer is an exciting time of year. Collections are shown around the world in Paris, Milan, New York, and London during the month of September. It gives us a budding view of what styles we'll be able to indulge in during the forthcoming months.
Every year, fashion presents us with a new expression of the state of the world, and a fresh response revealed in trends of the season.
Fashion after all is art, and art is an expression of truth.
1. SHORT STORIES
We've been closed up and sheltered, with the weight of the word on our backs. What better way to respond than to break the chains and come out of hiding in a way that keeps our limbs free from constraint. Fashion runways for Spring/Summer 2022 were filled with micro-minis and mini-skirt suits as the ultimate expression of our desire for freedom.
2. SUN WORSHIP
THrough the darkness, as a race, we hold onto hope like a ray of light. In a spirit of celebration and true happiness, this Spring/Summer we coffin let the light shine through gorgeous pops of sunny colours such as bronze, gold, amber, and marigold. With patio season upon us, why not try a matching citrus cocktail? Just for the gram!
3. ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET
We've been repressed and our sense of identity has been challenged. This Spring/Summer we come back with a vengeance and elevate ourselves with trains and tails. Get ready to be swept away wearing minis with several feet of train trailing behind you. Now that's how you make an entrance to a much awaited coffee date with your long-time besties.
4. MIDWAY THERE
The natural inclination to being locked up is to let loose. It's no surprise that fashion trends have us exposing other parts of our bodies besides our limbs. The season's new hot zone is the torso. No matter your size, don't be afraid to show some skin. Opt for low-rise paints paired with bralettes and crop-tops for a midsummer night's dream.
5. IN THE TRENCHES
We've been forced to be satisfied with the bare essentials through multiple lockdowns, where loungewear dressing became a default mode. This Spring/Summer, it's time to exalt the basic by re-inventing a favourite classic staple: the trench. Tie a belt around your preferred raincoat this season, or pull it off your shoulder. When it comes to fashions coat of choice, think outside the box. Designers spotted the runways with painted trenches and leather bands tied at the waist.
